Surely it wouldn't be that hard to define a new file format which is less dependant on version changes? * Except Chunk IDs, but they don't really help in this case. If the savegame version has changed and it's newer than that recognised by OpenTTD, it is never going to load fine (unless the version changed without the savegame structure changing, which doesn't happen often, if at all). We've got checks for backwards compatibility so that you can load old savegames, but you have no idea what has changed in newer savegames, so there's no way to know what data's in them. No, because OpenTTD savegames (and scenarios, which are the same thing) only store data, they don't store any information about what the data is*. Fine, if it smegs up, that's your fault, but if it loads fine, you can then save it again and all should be fine. Otherwise, we'll be able to create superb scenarios but not play them in the main versions! But you will not be able to get them loaded in 0.6.x. If that is correct your saves should be loadable in trunk without patches I think. The reason is that trunk have many features which is not and will never be in 0.6.x.Īctually the patch you've used if I'm right it only changes the behavior of the landscape generator, not the savegame format. To your problem, you will not be able to load your patched trunk save game with 0.6.3-Rc1 even if you patch it with the patches that you did apply to trunk. Then follow the guide on the wiki for how to setup your computer to compile OpenTTD with the MSVC Express version that you installed (2003 or 2008). If you have a few gigabytes to spare you can install MSVC Express which is free of change. I really don't know if this is possible, but will make the cross play between platforms seamless.MGSteve wrote:I would built it myself, but I don't have MSVC. It would be simpler if we have a "Save to network" / "Load from network" like the Android version on PC/MAC/LINUX, so we can choose the service, add the account in all devices (google play cloud, dropbox, google driver, icloud.) and have a option to save and load the same save, in a simple and fast way. These are not extreme tasks, but it takes time and sometimes we can be away from the computer during a trip for example and we can not load the save because we do not have access to it. Start a local multiplayer and connect the devices and save where I want or send to Dropbox / Google Drive and access wherever i want or just use the SD card/USB transfer (but we can have problems with hidden files/folder that do not appear in the explorer of another system). To send a save from the PC to Android or vice versa and continue the same game, I have three options. So, i play OpenTTD on my PC and Android Devices Tablet/Smartphone, I believe many do this.
